Best Online Guitar lessons

Myself after just a few online guitar lessonsHi! I’m Nate, I have been playing the guitar for a little over 2 years now. After my long journey of watching some of the best online guitar lessons I decided to put together this website to help others – I spent weeks, if not months, trying out different guitar lessons and tutorials and have come up with a definitive list of the best online guitar courses. I was originally a drummer, I actually used drum lessons online as a refresher after I got back from travelling. It was actually because of the drum lessons that I thought I would do the same to learn guitar.

The best advice I got when I was learning guitar, was to invest in a proper schedule instead of jumping from one topic to the next – oh and get a decent guitar, you don’t need a Les Paul but something better than cracked and broken hand-me-down would be good. When I started all I wanted was progress and to be able to play a few songs. I started doing what every other person does, I started watching YouTube videos in hope they would help me learn how to play guitar – for me it was more specific to electric guitar lessons other than acoustic guitar. That was the biggest waste of time, I might have learnt to play part of a song but I didn’t learn how to play the guitar at all. Then, I started looking for online guitar lessons.

I ended up joining a paid membership website for online lessons, $19 it cost me. I went from blindly playing small parts of songs to being able to play the guitar and understanding what I was doing.

I started with the an online guitar course (best from what tried at least) around a year ago and its only then that I started understanding how to play guitar correctly and not having to follow tutorials for every song I wanted to learn.

I have tried a few of the paid membership websites for learning guitar online so I will review and talk about the pros and cons of each.

Top Rated Online Electric Guitar Lessons

  1. JamPlay – 5 out of 5
  2. Guitar Tricks 4 out of 5
  3. Jamorama – Still to be reviewed.

JamPlay Review

JamPlay was founded in 2006 and has been providing high quality and arguably the best online guitar lessons. When you sign up for JamPlay you can expect easy to follow lessons with a lot of in-depth information to help improve your technique. All of the videos I have watched offer a multi-camera option which basically makes it feel like your in the same room as the instructor. The multi-camera feature helped me a lot when trying to get my fingers into the exact position needed for the lesson. In my opinion the multi-camera feature bridges the gap perfectly when comparing online lessons to in person lessons.

In my opinion JamPlay is great tool for those wanting to learn guitar without spending hundreds of dollars on face-to-face lessons. JamPlay is less than $20 per month whereas a single face-to-face lesson will cost a lot more than $20! If you need more information read my full JamPlay review here.

Guitar Tricks Review

Since 1998, before anyone was even able to watch online guitar lessons on the likes of YouTube, Guitar Tricks have been providing some of the best guitar training and courses. Guitar Tricks boasts an impressive 1.8million registered users as well as 8000 lessons. Lessons cover ever topic and technique you can imagine, from beginner lessons to rock star guitarists. to get your feet wet and test out the platform. One of my favourite parts of Guitar Tricks are the lessons that help you learn some fairly well known songs like Smoke on the water – an iconic guitar song!

Which Online Guitar Lessons Provider? JamPlay VS. Guitar Tricks

When it comes down to JamPlay VS. Guitar Tricks who exactly comes off best? Well, it depends what you want and how you want to learn, not to mention how much you can spend.

Both providers offer a high quality learning experience with structured and intelligent online guitar lessons which build on what you already know, or what you don’t know if you are a beginner. The only real differences are the ability to join live lessons and a private Q & A session with guitar lesson teachers from JamPlay, this is something that is missing from Guitar Tricks.

Personally I would opt for JamPlay in the JamPlay vs Guitar Tricks face off, as it offers the Q & A sessions and live lessons which suits me nicely, as I did tend to have questions when I learned how to play the guitar. Also, I feel the overall experience of learning guitar online with JamPlay was better, I got the impression that I was learning faster than I did with any other provider.

Should I Get Face-To-Face Lessons Or Online Guitar Lessons?

Its obvious that having guitar training from a guitar teacher face-to-face is a great way to learn guitar, but its also the most expensive. In most cases it will be more than $50 per hour. You also have to factor in travelling time and the fact that you can only learn new things on the guitar when the teacher shows you how. Getting yourself a course of guitar lessons online for a month is cheaper than any face-to-face lesson, that I know of, for the hour. Choosing any of the online guitar lesson providers will me you get unlimited guitar lessons as soon as you sign up. You will no doubt storm through the lessons and become a much better electric guitar (or acoustic) player within days, rather than months!

Learning online is, in my opinion, just as good as with a teacher because you actually have a teacher even with online training. These online guitar teachers talk you through everything you need to know about the lesson, guitar, song or what ever else the lesson is teaching.

The biggest selling point for myself, and many others, is the fact that learning guitar online can be done at any time. The lessons are on-demand so you can play, pause, rewind lessons as you need. So, if you happen to be a night owl then your in luck!

So if you want to learn to play guitar like Brian May then you will need the best online guitar lessons with a structured format from a reputable source like JamPlay and Guitar Tricks. Here is a little video of Brian May, just to get you in the mood! A little fact about Brian May is that he also made his own electric guitar, you can read more about it here.
