Voice lessons in Charlotte, NC
Julie Martin Dean is passionate about helping students sing the music that they love. Julie operates her own voice studio where she currently offers private instruction and group voice classes for singers of all ages in Charlotte, N.C. She believes the advent of blockbuster shows like American Idol, Glee, and The Voice – along with a host of newer popular musicals – in recent years, have created a robust demand for contemporary training among folks with a new or renewed interest in singing. In addition to technical and stylistic training, Julie educates teachers, professional speakers and singers on the functions and mechanics of the voice; on audition preparation, body awareness among other fun stuff!
She earned a Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Queens University of Charlotte and Winthrop University, respectively. Julie is certified in Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method (TM) earned at the Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute at Shenandoah University, completing her sixth summer of post-certification courses at the Institute in 2014. Julie is also a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).
When she’s not teaching, you can catch Julie performing at open mic nights at local venues, singing jazz standards, folk and pop/rock and old country/bluegrass. She enjoys staying in touch with her classical side by singing in local recitals and performing with the Opera Carolina Chorus. In addition to playing piano, she plays a little guitar and ukulele. And she’s always ready to dispense good advice on how to belt out your favorite popular tune at karaoke.
